I've gotten through the next rounds of picking strings and it made me wonder about guitar playing in general. I like the sounds of playing chords but also like the finger picking and have not been sure about different methods in playing. In talking to my CT from last semester who plays guitar, I found out that there are two different methods to finger picking. Most of the videos that I found online fit the method of your fingers holding a certain chord and then finger picking with this chord being held. Finger picking can also be done, however, just holding string by string depending on what's to be played. That is what I'm doing currently in the GuitarBots game.
I found this video and love her playing. It seemed to me like in parts of the video she holds chords but in other parts, she's just holding individual strings based on the guitar. However, she mentions arpeggios which use a chord and different patterns of the fingers playing. I really liked her descriptions in this video.
I've always like the Flamenco style of guitar playing, which uses fingerpicking. Here's a beautiful example of this type of music.
Bossa Nova is another style, though it's played on a different type of guitar than what I have. I like this music a lot too. I'm seeing the reason why I really like the fingerpicking style because a lot of the music that I've always enjoyed uses this.
There's a lot more as well, but this gives me an initial understanding of what I might be able to do with fingerpicking. I know there are many songs that use both chords and fingerpicking as well, so it will help me to play all types of music if I learn both methods.
